Quilled Blue Smoker Abstract
I used to be in a Facebook group called Let It Flow. It was a place where people could share their flow art. It was there that I was inspired to create my Quilled Blue Smoker Abstract.
Quilled art doesn’t readily transform into flow art, so I had to work outside the box. I love using mixed media in my pieces and have always wished I kept this one for my personal collection. I guess that it’s probably a good thing that it sold since my walls are getting pretty full!
It was hard to decide whether this piece should be mounted horizontally or vertically. I believe that I photographed it both ways and let the customer decide before I signed it in the appropriate corner.
This piece is 11″ x 14″ and mounted on white, fiber-infused artboard. To create the underpainting, I used alcohol inks and blended them together where they met. I allowed a light blackish blue to bleed all the way to the bottom edge.
I used 1/4″ quilling strips to “outline” the borders of the various colors using a topsy-turvy technique I created a few years ago.
Although this Quilled Blue Smoker Abstract is sold, I am currently taking commission. Please contact me to discuss any projects you have in mind. And, if you prefer already-created art, hop on over to my Etsy shop and see what I have on the shelf and ready to ship.
