Quilled Creations Metallic Edge | A Review
Well, I went ahead and bought some of the Quilled Creations Metallic Edge strips to test them out. They arrived last night and I can verify that they are REALLY GILDED – not a faux gilding or pearlescent or vaguely metallic-looking. They are actually gilded. Wow, I’m positively thrilled.
The fact that I can now buy true gilded quilling paper without having to have it shipped from the UK is a pretty big deal! I’m not saying JJ Quilling is off my radar totally (see why below), but at least there are some other options.
Quilled Creations is now selling gilded paper. They currently have ten color combos available in a single 1/8″ width. While this isn’t quite the selection I’d hoped for, it’s a good start. I’m hoping that over time they add more colors and of course… the 1/4″ width that I use primarily.
Color Combos Available
After testing this paper out, I am pleased to report that I’m thrilled with it’s performance. The gilding is nice and thick and looks just as nice as JJ Quilling’s gilded paper. The actual paper itself isn’t extremely thin so it handles nicely. The paper is standard length so it let’s you use common measurements for your pieces and parts.
The sheen is gorgeous and luxurious. It shows up amazingly well visually and will undoubtedly look great in any application – most notably with tight coils.
Pretty much the only con I can find at the moment is the limited colors. One of my favorite gilded shades from JJ Quilling is the peacock blue and since birds are a big ticket quilling subject, that color would have been nice to have.
My wish list items are for a green gilding, blue gilding, and for all the colors to come in 1/4″.
The Metallic Edge paper rolls out smoothly and holds its shape well. Some gilded paper I’ve used holds its shape too, well, and the gilding prevents the coils from opening up. This is not the case with this paper. It opens up just as nicely as non-gilded paper. A very impressive quality.
The gilding is softer looking in certain types of lighting. When it’s not catching a glint, this is what it looks like – at least this is what the Gold on Ivory Paper looks like. See how the gilding is nice and thin – no chunky spots and no two pieces of paper inadvertently sticking together. The whole 50 pack has excellent separation.
