Quilled Letter P Monogram | Labrador Theme

The past couple of months I’ve made a lot of monograms. This Quilled Letter P Monogram | Labrador Theme is the first of 2021, but will likely be one of several I make this year. In fact, I am in the process of making a Green Letter M as we speak.

My mother commissioned this piece. She just said “like the blue O you made, but with a black lab.” I initially designed the cutest monogram where I had a black lab holding the letter P in his mouth. Mom texted me back and said, “Fancy P little dog.” I guess she didn’t like the design as much as I did. I’m hoping some day to get to use it!

The design that I liked

Anyways, I revised the design to focus on the P and not the dog. But grudgingly. I mean, dogs are the best, so they should be more prominently featured than a letter, right?

She had asked for an 8″ x 8″ but I just couldn’t get the P and Labrador to make nice on a square background. I swapped it out to an 8″ x 10″ and they fit better together.

On a side note, this poor monogram suffered two calamities before it made it to a frame. Last night when I put down my quilling tool after hours of meticulous “arting” I breathed a sigh of relief. It was only seconds later that my dog walked over to me and sneezed. Needles to say a couple of spots appeared on this newly complete monogram. And not in areas that I could easily hide. So… to fix this I had to add some pieces on that weren’t originaly there. I won’t tell you which ones though!

The next calamity was as I was peeling off the painter’s tape I protect the edges with. I have no idea why, but both top and bottom pieces pulled the top layer of the paper up. Ugh! To hide this I cut out a beautiful linen-textured “mat” to glue around the outside edges. It really looks beautiful and like it was planned. Luckily I always leave a decent amount of white space around the edge of all my pieces. This saved me yet again!

Although this particular Quilled Letter P Monogram | Labrador Theme piece is sold, I have created two Etsy listings for monograms. One is a standard generic scrollwork monogram, the other is for “themed” monograms. All of my Made-to-Order listings are displayed below.

If cats aren’t your thing, but quilled or fluid artwork is – I am currently accepting commissions. Please contact me to discuss your project ideas.
