Quilled Mom-o-Gram Typography

Quilled Mom-o-Gram Typography

This is a piece that I affectionately call my “Mom-o-gram.” It’s quilled Mom-o-Gram typography of the word “Mom.” I made it because I was testing out some ideas for Mother’s Day. It’s made from beautiful, bright printed two-sided cardstock and has a couple of decorative…

A Quilled Scrollwork Heart: A Tale of Unfinished Artistry

A Quilled Scrollwork Heart: A Tale of Unfinished Artistry

Creating art has always been a way for me to express my creativity and emotions. Over the years, I’ve embarked on various artistic journeys, each piece telling a unique story. One such piece is this quilled scrollwork heart in a deep red hue, meticulously crafted from dense scrollwork. The heart was split into two distinct pieces – top and bottom – with the space in between designed to hold the names of those who held a special place in my heart. However, despite my intentions, the heart remains unfinished, a testament to the ebb and flow of artistic inspiration.

The concept behind the quilled red heart was simple. I wanted to create a symbolic representation of love, encapsulating the bonds that connect us to the people who matter most. Splitting the heart into two pieces – top and bottom – was a visual metaphor for the idea that love has the power to unite even when circumstances or distances keep us physically apart.

The space between the split heart was designed to hold the names of those who held significance in my life. The very act of quilling each scroll was an expression of appreciation, a gesture that represented the time, effort, and care that I felt for these individuals.

Over time, the heart joined a tote filled with forgotten and unwanted artwork. It became a silent witness to my artistic journey, a reminder that not all creations reach completion and that some pieces hold a unique space in the narrative of unfinished works.

In the spirit of sharing the journey, I’ve included a video that captures the moments of creation behind the quilled red heart. It’s a glimpse into the process, the careful coiling of paper strips, and the dedication that went into shaping the heart’s scrollwork form. While the heart may remain incomplete, the video serves as a testament to the effort and passion that went into its beginnings.

Quilled Northern Cardinal with Holly

Quilled Northern Cardinal with Holly

Greetings, fellow art enthusiasts! Today, I’m excited to unveil a recent addition to my paper quilling repertoire—a delicate portrayal of a Northern Cardinal. In the world of intricate designs and elaborate techniques, this piece is a testament to the beauty that can be found in simplicity. As I share the story behind this artwork, I can’t help but be reminded of an upcoming workshop where we’ll be delving into the creation of similar pieces.

A Glimpse of Nature’s Splendor

The Northern Cardinal, with its vibrant red plumage and distinctive crest, has always held a special place in my heart. These birds bring a splash of color to the landscape, especially during the colder months when nature’s palette can often seem muted. My quilled rendition of this elegant creature was born out of a desire to capture the essence of its charm.

Embracing Minimalism

Unlike some of my more intricate creations, this quilled Northern Cardinal is a study in simplicity. The process of crafting this piece involved embracing minimalism and allowing the beauty of the bird to shine through with open space and basic shapes. Sometimes, it’s the understated elegance that leaves the most lasting impression.

The Power of Open Space

In this artwork, I found that open space played a pivotal role in enhancing the overall impact. The negative space around the cardinal allowed its vibrant red feathers to pop against the backdrop. It’s a reminder that sometimes, what we leave out can be just as important as what we include.

Shapes as the Building Blocks

Creating this quilled masterpiece was a journey of shaping and arranging basic forms to recreate the cardinal’s distinctive features. I found that even the simplest shapes—circles for the body, triangles for the beak, and crescents for the crest—could come together to evoke the essence of the bird. It’s a testament to the transformative power of combining basic elements.

A Sneak Peek into the Workshop

As I reflect on the creation of this quilled Northern Cardinal, I’m excited to share that an upcoming workshop will explore the process of crafting similar pieces. During this workshop, we’ll delve into the beauty of simplicity, using fundamental shapes to bring creatures like the cardinal to life. It’s an opportunity to connect with fellow creators and embrace the magic that can be found in the uncomplicated.

Celebrating Nature’s Wonders

This artwork is a reminder that even the simplest of creations can celebrate the wonders of nature. The Northern Cardinal, with its vivid colors and graceful form, becomes a vessel through which we can appreciate the beauty that surrounds us. Sometimes, all it takes is a few carefully placed shapes to encapsulate the essence of a creature.

Join Me in the Journey

If you’re intrigued by the art of quilling and drawn to the allure of simplicity, I invite you to join me in the upcoming workshop. Together, we’ll explore how basic shapes and open space can breathe life into our creations. Whether you’re a seasoned quiller or just starting out, there’s something magical about creating art that captures the heart of nature.

In Conclusion

As I gaze at my quilled Northern Cardinal, I’m reminded that art can often be found in the spaces between lines and the simplicity of shapes. This piece, with its minimalistic approach and striking portrayal of a beloved bird, has become a favorite in my collection. And now, as I prepare for the workshop ahead, I’m excited to embark on a journey of creativity and exploration with like-minded individuals.

Thank you for joining me in celebrating the art of quilling and the beauty of simplicity. Until next time, may you find joy in the simple things that surround you.
