This is a piece that I affectionately call my “Mom-o-gram.” It’s quilled Mom-o-Gram typography of the word “Mom.” I made it because I was testing out some ideas for Mother’s Day. It’s made from beautiful, bright printed two-sided cardstock and has a couple of decorative quilled flowers. I chose orange as one of the colors because my mother’s favorite color is orange. My hope was that she’d see me post it and be like “Wow, that’s so pretty!” and I would know she was interested in it.
Crafting Sentiments
The idea for the Mom-o-gram sprouted from the desire to offer something special for Mother’s Day. I don’t often have time to create holiday specific artwork, but this was a rare exception to that rule. Combining quilling with typography, I set out to create a unique piece that would resonate with people looking for a gift for their mothers.
A Burst of Colors
What makes the Mom-o-gram eye-catching is its vibrant use of designer paper. Unlike traditional quilled artwork with solid colors, this piece embraced the playful patterns of orange and purple printed paper. The fusion of hues added a touch of whimsy and sophistication.
Unfortunately, Cricut no longer carries designer paper and it’s very difficult to find high-quality cardstock prints through other companies. At least with Cricut I knew what to expect. These days when I buy printed cardstock, it’s like rolling the dice.
Open and Unconventional
Unlike many of my other quillography pieces, which often feature intricate scrollwork and quilled elements, the Mom-o-gram took a different path. I chose to leave it more open, allowing the letters to breathe and express their meaning without being overwhelmed by excessive embellishments. This unconventional approach turned out to be a stroke of brilliance, as the simplicity of the design spoke volumes.
