I’m a country girl at heart, having grown up on a farm where I drove tractors, rode horses, and even led cows around like dogs. I cherish the simple things in life: a dog’s lick on my face, and a husband who’s not just a partner but a lifelong companion. Gardening is a passion of mine, especially tending to flower gardens, as I absolutely adore photographing flowers. I love the spicy scent of pine needles and fresh air. I do art things on the side because if I don’t, I get cranky. Art is my outlet.
In the summer, you’ll often find me on the lake, fishing pole in hand, catching the biggest bass and always releasing them back into the water. Maine’s stunning natural beauty captivates me, and I spend a significant amount of time capturing it through my lens, watching it, or simply sitting in silent awe of it.
I live rurally in Midcoast Maine with my husband Daniel and my Redbone Coonhound, Tyson.
Since I discovered quilling in 2014, I’ve created hundreds of beautiful pieces. Every single work of art was made with passion and meticulous attention to detail, whether it was a gift for my grandmother or a surprise for a stranger who had recently lost their beloved pet. What I’ve learned over time is that the most meaningful aspect of being an artist is that I get to choose what I create. I pick projects that satisfy my soul and hopefully enhance the lives of the people that I make art for.
I strive to be the artist that people seek out because they want a piece of artwork that captures a feeling or emotion or memory, and not to simply mass produce generic décor. I want my art to have essence and meaning. Does this mean that I’m no longer accepting commissions? Nope! I am definitely interested in hearing about your project ideas. There is no project too small, and, I want to say there are none too large, but… let’s be realistic, we’re talking about quilling here, LOL.
Artist’s Statement
As a multifaceted artist with a passion for quilling, photography, and various fine arts, I find inspiration in the extraordinary and the exceptional. My creations are deeply intertwined with my emotional journey, each piece a reflection of a specific moment, feeling, or theme in my life.
In my paper art, which I affectionately call “quilling plus,” I blend traditional quilling techniques with elements of collage, edgework, and even sculpture. This fusion allows me to push the boundaries of the medium, creating pieces that transcend the conventional notions of paper art.
My artistic mission is to evoke wonder and joy in those who view my work. I strive to elicit a profound emotional response, whether it’s through sheer amazement at the intricacy of my creations or the simple pleasure of visual indulgence. By engaging the senses and stirring memories, I aim to create a transformative experience for the viewer.
While I lack formal training in art or photography, my journey as an artist began with a reawakening of latent talent in my late thirties. Despite my background in English and technical writing, I’ve embraced my innate creativity and pursued further education in graphic design. This interdisciplinary approach has enriched my artistic practice, allowing me to draw from diverse sources of inspiration and technique.
Through my art, I invite you to join me on a journey of exploration and discovery. Together, let’s revel in the extraordinary beauty that surrounds us and find joy in the unexpected.
