As a quilling artist, every project presents a unique opportunity to translate creativity into a tangible masterpiece. Each commission carries a special story, and the tale of a quilled scrollwork Porsche car holds a distinct place in my artistic journey.
A Personalized Tribute
The woman who commissioned the artwork wanted to surprise her brother with a personalized gift that paid homage to his beloved Porsche car. As it turns out, the woman was the partner of a friend of my father’s. How’s that for six degrees of separation?
An Artistic Departure
As an artist, I’m accustomed to crafting pieces that showcase my signature style and techniques. However, this particular project took me in a different direction. The customer specifically requested the entire artwork to be done in scrollwork, a technique that involved intricate rolling and shaping of paper strips. While I enjoy the freedom of artistic expression, I understood the importance of adhering to her vision to create a gift that would resonate with her brother.
Mixed Feelings
As the quilled Porsche car took shape, I couldn’t help but have mixed feelings about the final result. While the scrollwork technique always looks beautiful, no matter what it’s applied to, I found myself longing to incorporate elements that I felt would have been more appropriate. The artwork felt different from what I typically create, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that I would have made different artistic choices if left to my own devices.
A Meaningful Gift
When I presented the quilled Porsche car to the customer, she was thrilled with the outcome. Her brother, the recipient, was deeply touched by the personalized tribute to his cherished car. While I may not have fully appreciated the final piece, knowing that my customer was happy is all that matters. This project was a reminder that art is subjective and carries diverse meanings for different individuals.
