When I found out my cousin had gotten married during COVID and that it had been a themed wedding, I couldn’t wait to create a similarly themed quilled double monogram for them. But wait, there is more. This is THE cousin who first introduced me to quilling all those years ago. Wow!
The Tale of Katherine and Alex
Every love story is a tapestry woven with unique threads, and the tale of Katherine and Alex was no exception. Their wedding was a celebration of love, individuality, and shared dreams. As I set out to create a personalized quilled monogram for their anniversary, I knew I wanted to incorporate elements that spoke to their unique love story.
Crafting the Monogram
The heart of this quilled artwork lay in the intertwined letters “K” and “A,” representing Katherine and Alex. Katherine, the radiant bride, had worn a silver tiara adorned with a ruby-colored stone on her wedding day. To represent this, I carefully quilled the letter “K” with a silver tiara, its center adorned with ruby-colored gilded paper to simulate a gem stone. It was a homage to the tiara that crowned her on that special day.
The “A” with a Sword and Scabbard
Alex, the groom, had donned a traditional Gaelic sword and scabbard. To capture this essence, I quilled the letter “A” with a meticulously crafted red scabbard and a silver sword.
The Centerpiece: Sunflower, Rose, and Fern Frond
The heart of the double monogram featured a sunflower and a rose. These blooms were entwined with delicate fern fronds, representing the wedding bouquets.
Framed with Love
The completed quilled monogram was an 8″ x 8″ masterpiece that framed in a 12″ x 12″ shadowbox.
A Symbol of Timeless Love
This quilled monogram wasn’t just a piece of art; it was a symbol of love’s endurance and the memories that bind two souls together. Each element within the artwork told a story—a story of love, heritage, and the beauty found in the smallest details.
Something that I also want to share is that creating this artwork out of a technique that Kat had introduced to me made it that much more special.
