This creation was inspired by a larger 8″x10″ piece I crafted a year or two ago, which I affectionately named “Sleep My Pretty“. The story of this mini poppy landscape begins with a burst of inspiration from my earlier creation, “Sleep My Pretty.” The larger piece featured a mesmerizing vortex of paper quilled poppies that danced across an 8″x10″ canvas. Its ethereal beauty and captivating design left an indelible mark on my creative soul.
With the desire to capture that enchantment on a smaller canvas, I embarked on the journey of creating this mini poppy landscape. The canvas size for this piece measures 5″x7″, which, while smaller in dimension, still preserves the essence of the original larger work. The challenge lay in distilling the magic of “Sleep My Pretty” into this more compact rendition.
One of the defining features of both pieces is the use of vortex coils to create the delicate yet vibrant poppies. These quilled poppies seem to whirl and sway, their paper petals capturing the essence of a lively field in bloom. While the size may differ, the mini poppy landscape retains the same captivating dance of these vortex poppies.
However, one significant difference sets this mini landscape apart—the clouds and sky. In this piece, I chose to employ crimped scrollwork to depict the sky and clouds. This technique adds a unique texture and depth to the artwork, creating the illusion of fluffy, wind-swept clouds against a serene blue sky.
The use of crimped scrollwork for the clouds and sky in this mini poppy landscape was a departure from my earlier work, and I must admit that I prefer this effect.
